Anyang in Qingming: Discover the Charm of Spring

Some people love the canyon in spring, when peach blossoms bring soft color and new life.

Some prefer summer, when the Taihang Sky Road rises through deep green shade.

Others enjoy autumn, when Wangxiang Rock is wrapped in warm golden tones.

But some visitors love the canyon most in winter.

The First Days of Winter

Quiet, Pure, and Beautiful

Early winter shows the canyon in its most natural form.

The trees have dropped their leaves, frost covers the dry grass, and ancient cypress and pine trees stand strong along the red cliffs.

Here and there, a bit of green appears, small touches that brighten the quiet landscape.

The path winds upward like a silver ribbon around the peaks.

In the streams and gullies, the first ice begins to form, creating beautiful winter shapes carved by nature.

A clean, crisp winter scene slowly opens before you.

A Different Kind of Peace

In winter, the canyon is calm and spacious.
Without the busy crowds, it feels deeper, quieter, and more elegant.

Climbing Wangxiang Rock in this season always brings a special feeling a mix of grand views and the timeless power of the land.

When sunlight reflects off Taihang Lake, turning the water into shining gold, you feel the peaceful beauty of mountains and sky all around you.

True, Simple Nature

The winter canyon is honest and pure.
It sets aside the noise of the past seasons and shows its true, untouched form, simple, natural, and free of decoration.

At the Chinese Writing Museum, visitors can unlock the “Qingming codes” hidden within Chinese characters through interactive experiences, while immersive performances at the Cao Cao Mausoleum Site Museum showcase the grandeur of the Cao Wei era. From spring outings and sightseeing to exploring ancient history and hidden cultural treasures, the beauty of nature and the heritage of thousands of years of civilization shine together, inviting visitors on a cultural journey not to be missed.

Yinxu Area

Witness the Legends of Yin-Shang and Embrace the Springtime Promise

As the spring breeze brushes across the Huan River, a civilization of more than 3,000 years awakens in the spring sunshine. From April 4 to 6, the Yinxu area will launch the themed series “Spring Encounter at Yinxu: Qingming Spring Rhythms.” Three major locations—the Palace and Ancestral Temple Ruins, Yinxu Museum, and Shachang 1903—will work together to allow visitors to experience a springtime encounter with Shang civilization while enjoying the beauty of spring.

At the Palace and Ancestral Temple Ruins of Yinxu and the south plaza of the Yinxu Museum, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, the sites will transform into moving historical stages. The traditional-style performance series “Spring Encounter at Yinxu: Oracle Dance Reborn” will be staged here. Two major performances, Fu Hao Goes to War and King Wu Ding’s Wedding, will alternate throughout the day, vividly recreating the heroic image of the female general Fu Hao and the romantic legend of the Shang king and queen from over 3,000 years ago, allowing visitors to closely experience the pulse of Yin-Shang civilization.

If the Palace and Ancestral Temple Ruins and Yinxu Museum represent the echoes of history, then Shachang 1903 is a poem of springtime. During Qingming Festival, this former industrial site will transform into a beautiful spring street district. Every day at 3:00 p.m., the “Shachang 1903 Qingming Spring Street” event will begin on schedule. Decorated with flowers and elegant scenery, every step becomes a picturesque scene worthy of a photograph. Six “Flower Goddesses” dressed in graceful traditional Chinese clothing will parade through the area at scheduled times. Their gentle movements and elegant demeanor make them appear as though they have stepped out of an ancient painting. During the parade, the “Flower Goddesses” will interact and take photos with visitors while giving away spring-themed gifts such as pinwheels. Walking through the district feels like stepping into a flowing Chinese spring painting, where visitors can discover poetic spring beauty within the bustling city.

This Qingming Festival, visitors are encouraged to explore the Yinxu area. Feel the pulse of civilization through graceful performances and enjoy the elegance of spring accompanied by the “Flower Goddesses.” The charm of Shang civilization and the bright spring scenery await visitors beside the Huan River.

Chinese Writing Museum

Searching for the Roots of Chinese Characters and Embracing a Poetic Qingming

On April 1, reporters learned from the Chinese Writing Museum that, in order to promote outstanding traditional Chinese culture and unlock the “Qingming codes” hidden within Chinese characters, the museum will launch a series of themed activities from April 4 to 6. All activities will be open to the public, and reservations can be made in advance through the museum’s official WeChat account.

The activities include self-guided educational programs and public interactive experiences, centered around a “culture + experience” model. During the event period, self-guided learning channels will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. More than ten featured projects, including Magic Agents, intangible cultural heritage mother-of-pearl crafts, cliff cypress oracle bone script creations, and herbal fragrance plaques, will also be available. Visitors can experience intangible cultural heritage techniques up close and create their own cultural souvenirs while appreciating the fusion of Chinese character culture and traditional folk customs.

The public interactive experience section will feature themed activities at different times, offering various Qingming cultural experiences. On April 4, the museum will host the “Spring on Glass” sea glass oracle bone script pendant DIY workshop and the “Ink Charm Impressions” woodblock printing experience, allowing participants to experience the essence of traditional printing techniques through hands-on activities.

On April 5, the museum will organize the “Exploring Qingming Through the Seasons” public Chinese character class, combining mini lectures with handicraft experiences to explain the cultural meaning of the Qingming solar term and the evolution of Chinese characters. The “Poetry Gathering” Qingming poetry calligraphy event will also invite visitors to express their emotions through brush and ink while writing poetic verses related to Qingming.

On April 6, visitors can participate in traditional roof tile rubbing experiences and the “Sharp Eyes Recognize Characters” oracle bone script guessing game, where prizes will be awarded through fun interactions that help spread knowledge about Chinese characters.

Throughout the event, the Chinese Writing Museum uses Chinese characters as a bridge to revive traditional crafts through oracle bone script rubbing and woodblock printing while interpreting Qingming culture through poetry calligraphy and seasonal lessons. Visitors can appreciate the festival spirit of “clear skies and bright scenery” while inheriting the cultural legacy of Chinese characters and Qingming traditions.
